General Specs

Mass Volume Application

RotoVaps have been the industry standard for low volume production due to their inexpensive cost; however, the slow recovery rate, large footprint, and higher labor-to-output cost require a more efficient way to handle high volumes of production. As outlined above, the AutoVap 15 (AV-15) can operate at a similar output level of ten 20L RotoVaps, while dramatically reducing overall footprint, energy costs, consumable costs, staff required to operate the equipment, and all the headache.

For mass volume production, the AutoVap Falling Film Evaporator is the most efficient and highest quality ethanol recovery system available on the market. The AutoVap allows you to continuously feed material and recover ethanol.


All fabrication is performed in the U.S.A. and China, and assembly shall be performed in the U.S.A. The materials used are Viton and PTFE gaskets, 3A sanitary stainless steel 304 tri-clamp fittings, 316L Swagelok fittings, and borosilicate glass. All wetted components have been approved by the FDA for food and beverage use.

System Rating

The entire system will be rated for a maximum allowable working pressure of -29 in Hg to 15 psi, and certified systems affixed with a 15psi ASME pressure relief valve that is vented to the atmosphere.

The vessels and components are manufactured to ASME specifications, however do not bare an ASME stamp and due to standard operational pressures are not considered a pressure vessel as per Section VIII of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The aforementioned relief valves ensure the system will not exceed this rating. The system is independently inspected before shipment or installation to ensure a maximum leak rate of 5 in Hg (vacuum) per hour, and shall not leak any detectable amount of ethanol vapor during normal operation.

The system has been designed to comply with the current laws governing chemical extraction in California, outlined below...

(k) “Nonvolatile solvent” means any solvent used in the extraction process that is not a
volatile solvent. For purposes of this division, a nonvolatile solvent includes carbon dioxide
(CO2) used for extraction and ethanol used for extraction or post - extraction processing.

§40225 Closed-Loop Extraction System Requirements
Chemical extractions using CO2 or a volatile solvent shall be conducted in a
professional closed loop extraction system. The system shall be commercially
manufactured and bear a permanently affixed and visible serial number. The system
shall be certified by a licensed engineer that the system was commercially
manufactured, safe for its intended use, and built to codes of recognized and
generally accepted good engineering practices, such as:
(1 ) The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME);
(2 ) American National Standards Institute (ANSI);
(3 ) Underwriters Laboratories (UL); or
(4 ) The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
The certification document must contain the signature and stamp of a professional
engineer and the serial number of the extraction unit being certified.
Professional closed loop systems, other equipment used, the extraction operation,
and facilities must be approved for use by the local fire code official and meet any
required fire, safety, and building code requirements specified in:
(1) National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards;
(2) International Building Code (IBC);
(3) International Fire Code (IFC); and
(4) Other applicable standards including all applicable fire, safety, and building codes
related to the processing, handling and storage of the applicable solvent or gas.

As per the guidelines above, ethanol does not fall into the volatile solvent category.
However, TruSteel is in the process of ensuring the system complies with volatile
manufacturing guidelines as well, to go “above and beyond” and guarantee the
utmost safety for the operators and employees. All electrical components we
recommend bear an ETL or UL mark, and the system has been designed to comply
with ASME via a pressure relief device as outlined above. TruSteel is also in the
process of obtaining a professional engineering stamp to ensure the strictest quality

control and compatibility with any given jurisdiction, however it is still in review and
not issued at the time this document was written.

Ancillary Heating and Cooling

The heating and cooling components for the AV-15 shall be housed in a separate location depending on the governing municipality legislature. These consist of (1) ChillKing 5 ton commercial chiller, (1) Hubbell electric tankless or Navien LPG/Natural Gas tankless heater, (1) Chugger fluid pump, (1) Welch 2061 Diaphragm Vacuum Pump, and (1) PolyScience -40C 28L chiller, all of which bear an ETL or uL listing. It is highly recommended the ChillKing unit is placed outside or given adequate ventilation to exhaust the heat produced by it, outlined in their operation manual.

Warranty & Support

TruSteel LLC shall warranty all components against defects in workmanship and
material for a period of one (1) year from date of start-up, provided that the unit is
installed and operated within the scope of the system design and operating
capability. Labor is not covered under warranty. Each AutoVap shall be shipped with
a complete set of installation and operating instructions including spare parts list and
TruSteel has an experienced team at your service to answer your questions and
assist you along the way in successfully operating our AutoVap Falling Film
Evaporator Systems.

post-installation of the AutoVap. Have TruSteel train and support your team so that
